Thomas Bastide is a designer who doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. He adores beautiful machines and gets around mostly on motorcycles he's chosen for their uniqueness.
Thomas loves precious materials, brilliance and transparency. Creation is a substantial process and can call on a host of approaches: drawing, cardboard mockups, plasters, wood, resin sculpture and more. The point always is to choose the best way to represent the imagined Object.

Thomas is a tireless creator and in perpetual motion. Over 30-plus years he created nearly 1,500 pieces for Baccarat Crystal. He has also worked with over fifty major brands, from Christofle silver to Hermes leather goods to Hennesy cognac.

Now he has imagined objects for cub-ar, including a collection of clocks.

Becoming fascinated by the obsidian of Armenia, Thomas started his collaboration with cub-ar with a series of four pieces: a vase, a cup, a coin holder and an ashtray. They use three dimensions to play with thickness and give density to the variegated lights and darks of obsidian. Then in 2017, playing now with time and light, he created clocks and candlesticks. And so discovered in obsidian a way to combine two of his favorite materials, crystal and Macassar ebony.
